Microcalicium loraasii is described as new to science from old-growth boreal forest in Grane municipality,
Northern Norway. It is characterized by its sessile to short stalked, cylindrical ascomata with a greyish white
pruina, non-protruding mazaedium and 0–4-septate ascospores. Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Inference
phylogenetic analyses of mtSSU, nrLSU and nrITS sequence data confirm its placement in Microcalicium. The
species is so far only known from the type locality where it was growing on a decorticated snag of Pinus
sylvestris. A key to Microcalicium worldwide is provided.
