The generic name Tornabenia TREV. em KUR. (Physciaceae, Lichenophyta) is a later homonym of Tornabenea PARL. ex WEBB (Apiaceae, Magnoliophyta) and theretore illegitimate. A new name, Tornabeniopsis FOLLM., is proposed to replace Tornabenia TREV. em. KUR., and two species are transferred to it: Tornabeniopsis atlantica (ACH.) FOLLM. (bas. Parmelia atlantica ACH.), Tornabeniopsis ephebea (ACH.) FOLLM. (bas. Parmelia ephebea ACH.). Additional chorological and taxonomical observations are also included.
