43 taxa of lichens and lichenicolous fungi are reported from the peninsula Attica, SE part of the Greek mainland. Of these 6 are new to Greece and 24 are new to Attica. The Greek lichen flora is comparatively little known (Christensen 1989). The lichens of Madeira have been rather neglected since the work of Tavares (1952,1958,1964), who summarized the knowledge of the flora. Sochting (1972) added Diploschistes violascens and Parmelia perlata (P. coniocarpa) from the island Deserta Grande. Arrvidsson & Wall (1985) reported a further 34 species and Follmann (1990) another 31. The lichen flora in the former shipyard Eriksbergwarvet, situated on the northern shore of the river GOta iilv, just opposite the downtown area of Goteborg, was investigated during five days in 1992. Building of new ships was shut down in 1978 -79 and the area has after that, until 1992, been used only extensively by man.
