van den Boom P.P.G. (2012): Additions and notes to the checklist of lichens and lichenicolous fungi of Cape Verde, Österreichische Zeitschrift für Pilzkunde, 21: 5–16

Thirty-six taxa of lichens and lichenicolous fungi are reported as new to the Cape Verdean Islands. Some rare species are also mentioned in the annotated list. Two species are described as new: Polycoccum atrostriatae and Thelopsis africana. Caloplaca phlogina, Didymellopsis perigena, Graphis cincta and Thelopsis flaveola are new to Africa. Short descriptions about ecology and distri- bution of most taxa are provided. Keywords: new species, new records, ecology, taxonomy. – Mycobiota of Africa. EN Read more...

Hestmark G., Skogesal O. & Skullerud Ø. (2004): Growth, reproduction, and population structure in four alpine lichens during 240 years of primary colonization, Canadian Journal of Botany, 82(9): 1356-1362

The increase in thallus diameter and apothecium production, and the population size structure of the saxicolous lichens Umbilicaria cylindrica (L.) Del., Umbilicaria hyperborea (Ach.) Hoffm., Umbilicaria pmboscidea (L.) Schrad, and Umbilicaria torrefacta (Lightf.) Schrad, were measured in a chronosequence of 240 years in a glacier foreland in the alpine Jotunheimen National Park in Norway. All four species exhibited a pattern of fast growth in the early decades of their life history, followed by … EN Read more...

Schultz J. & Mosbach K. (1971): Studies on lichen enzymes: Purification and properties of an orsellinate depside hydrolase obtained from Lasallia pustulata, European Journal of Biochemistry, 22(2): 153-157

From the lichen Lasallia pustulata a new enzyme, “orsellinate depside hydrolase”, capable of catalyzing the hydrolysis of certain depsides to corresponding resorcylic acid monomers, has been isolated. The enzyme is extremely substrate-specific; only depsides based on orsellinic acid (2,4-di-hydroxy-6-methyl-benzoic acid) alone are acceptable. Phenyl benzoate and m-digallic acid are not hydrolysed. Purification of the enzyme 135-fold has been achieved with a final specific activity of 1300 U/mg … EN Read more...

Nimis P.L. & Tretiach M. (1999): Itinera Adriatica - lichens from the Eastern part of the Italian peninsula, Studia Geobotanica, 18: 51–106

805 infrageneric taxa, 777 of lichenized fungi, 23 of lichenicolous fungi, and 5 of non-lichenized fungi belonging to genera including also lichenized forms are reported from the eastern part of the Italian Peninsula. Six regions were surveyed, with a total of 130 collecting sites: Marche (35 sites, 420 taxa), Umbria (2 sites, 106 taxa), Abruzzo (23 sites, 460 taxa), Molise (11 sites, 304 taxa), Puglia (38 sites, 424 taxa) and Basilicata (21 sites, 337 taxa). These regions were among the lichenologically … EN Read more...
