Sequences of a group I intron in the tRNALeu of six Nostoc samples were obtained and aligned with 17 sequences obtained from GenBank. A simple distance based approach, using a neighbor-joining tree with Jukes-Cantor correction, was employed to identify the cultures at species level. The results indicate that Peltigera malacea has at least two different cyanobionts: N. muscorum and N. punctiforme. A new species of the lichen genus Dermatocarpon, D. atrogranulosum, is described. It belongs to sect. Polyrhizion. Its underside is covered by papillate to coarse, irregularly knobby or somewhat elongated rhizinomorphs.
