Harada H. (2003): Psoroglaena japonica (lichenized Ascomycota, Verrucariaceae), a new species from Chiba-ken, central Japan, with notes on Psoroglaena, Lichenology, 2(1): 5-10

Psoroglaena japonica H.Harada (Verrucariaceae) is described as a new lichenized fungus from Chiba-ken, central Japan. It differs from the most closely related P. stigonemotoides in its thallus and ascospore morphology, and its saxicolous habit. The following eight species are recognized in Psoroglaena: P. abscondita (Coppins & Vezda) Hafellner & Turk, P. costaricensis Henssen, P. cubensis Mull.Arg., P. dictyospora (A.Orange) H.Harada comb, nov., P. hepaticola (Dobbler & Vezda) H.Harada comb, nov., … EN Read more...

Harada H. (2001): Taxonomic notes on pyrenocarpous lichens in Japan (4). Anisomeridium ubianum (Vain.) R.C. Harris (Monoblastiaceae), Hikobia, 13: 411-414

Anisomeridium ubianum (Vain.) R.C.Harris is reported as new for Japan on the basis of three corticolous specimens from Chiba-ken, central Japan. Conidiomata arc first described for this species. One specimen differs from the other two in conidiomata and also in thallus and ascospores, and may therefore belong to a different taxon. For now, they are all tentatively included in A. ubianum. Description, figures, taxonomic notes etc. are provided on the basis of the Japanese materials EN Read more...

Harada H. (2001): Taxonomic notes on pyrenocarpous lichens in Japan (3). Pyrenula concatervans (Nyl.) R. C. Harris (Pyrenulaceae) new for Japan, J.Nat.Hist.Mus.Inst., Chiba, 6(2): 139-142

Pyrenula concalervans (Nyl.) R. C. Harris (lichenized Ascomycota, Melanommatales, Pyrenulaceae) is reported as new for Japan. It was collected on the trunk of an evergreen hardwood, Daphniphyllum teijsmanii in the warm temperate zone, Chiba-ken, central Japan. It is typical of this species by having a brownish crustose thallus, UV —, with white dots, well-developed chondroid cortex, solitary perithecioid ascomata with apical ostioles, black perithecial walls with colorless crystals, hymenium lacking … EN Read more...

Taxonomic study on marine species of Pyrenocollema in Japan has revealed P. halodytes (Nyl.) R.C.Harris in Egan as the only cpilithic species recognized. It is characterized by usually brownish, semipcllucid, continuous, epilithic crustose thallus with cyanobiont, exposed, black hemispherical perithecia, branched and anastomosing paraphysoids, and colorless, 1-septate ascospores. Ascomata frequently lack the apical portion probably by erosion. It is found on various siliceous rocks such as andesite, … EN Read more...
