The Pannaria rubiginosa-complex in S. America is shown to contain nine species with
distinct ecogeographic distribution patterns: P andina sp. nov. occurring in the upper forests and
paramos of the northern Andes and Central America, P. caesiocinerea (Vain.) comb. nov. restricted
to the Caribbean, P. coeruleonigrescens Müll. Arg. to SE Brazil, and P. rubiginella sp. nov. to the
cool-Pacific lowlands and islands. The distribution of P. rubiginosa s.str. is not fully clarified, but it
