Zwolicki A., Zmudczyńska-Skarbek K., Matuła J., Wojtuń B. & Stempniewicz L. (2016): Differential responses of Arctic vegetation to nutrient enrichment by plankton and fish-eating colonial seabirds in Spitsbergen - Frontiers in Plant Science, 7: 1959 [14 p.]

The role of seabirds as sea-land biovectors of nutrients is well documented. However, no studies have examined whether and how colonial seabirds that differ in diet may influence terrestrial vegetation. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to describe and compare plant communities located in the vicinity of the two most common types of seabird colonies in Arctic, occupied by piscivorous or planktivorous species. Within 46 plots arranged in four transects in the vicinity of planktivorous (little … URL EndNote Read more...

Zyryanova O.O. (2010): Lichens of Steppe Phytocenoses in the “Khakasskii” State Nature Reserve - Contemporary Problems of Ecology, 3(2): 215-220

The author is the first to inventory lichens in the “Khakasskii” State Nature Reserve. The current diversity of the lichen flora is estimated at 134 species in 47 genera and 27 families. The lichens were analyzed in terms of biomorphology, ecology, and geography. DOI: 10.1134/S1995425510020128 Key words: lichens, “Khakasskii” State Nature Reserve, steppe plant communities, epilithic lichens, terricolous, obligate and facultative calcicoles. Žatková L., Milovský R., Bechtel A., Starek D., Pipík R. & Šurka J. (2023): n-Alkane and terpenoid fingerprints of modern biomass producers unveil floral changes recorded in postglacial alpine lake sediments, Tatra Mountains, Slovakia - Organic Geochemistry, 184: 104672 [16 p.]

Highlights: • Lipid fingerprinting of modern biota helps reconstructing past environments. • Dry climate in YD recorded by Sphagnum retreat. • Pluvial episode suggested around 5,000 B.P. • Upper limit of Pinus mugo zone never passed over 1880 m.a.s.l. in Tatra Mts. • Lithophytic lichen biomass deposits with millenial delay. Sediments of two alpine lakes in Tatra Mts., Slovakia, record the environmental history of their catchments from deglaciation in Late Glacial warming … URL EndNote Read more...

The paper presents the results of systematic and ecological floristic investigations on lichens in ecotopes near the town Ilovaisk, Donetsk region. Systematical analysis has shown that lichenoflora comprises 22 species which belong to 13 genera, 10 families. Five species of them, namely – Acarospora schorica Vodop., Lecanora erysibantha Nyl., Placolecanora thulensis (Th. Fr.) Kopacz., Sarcogyne gibberella (Nyl.) H. Magn. – are rare ones both for the south-east as and the whole territory of … EndNote Read more...

One of the reasons for decline in abundance of rare and threatened species, including lichens, is uncontrolled pressure on the natural environment. Cetraria steppae (Savicz) Kärnef. listed in the «Red Data Book of Ukraine» (2009) is endangered and could become extinct without future management and control of the steppe plots where the species occurs. Distribution of the species and reasons of its abundance decline in the South-East of Ukraine are considered; recommendations for conservation … EndNote Read more...

The article presents a list of rare lichens of Donetsk region which includes 12 species. Information regarding the causes of decline of abundance, distribution and biomorphological symptoms is given for each species. [Averchuk A.S.] (2009): Порівняння видового складу лишайників територій з різним ступенем техногенного забруднення повітря на південному сході України [Сomparison of specific composition of the lichens found in the territories with different level of technogenic air pollution in the south-east of Ukraine] - Промышленная ботаника, Донецк [Industrial Botany, Donetsk], 9: 84-89

The study of the lichenoflora of three urban territories (Donetsk, Shakhtarsk, Torez) with high anthropopression chosen by the index of average annual concentration of air pollutants yielded 28 species of lichens related to 16 genera, 9 families. The observed data on the spread of lichens adequately reflect the level of air pollution which is corroborated by instrumental investigation. Thus, it is advantageous to use lichens as biomarkers of pollution for anthropogenically transformed environments. EndNote Read more...
