Three lichen species of Cladonia Hill ex P.Browne section Cocciferae (Delise) A.Evans are reported from South Africa, viz. Cladonia didyma (Fee) Vain., C. floerkeana (Fr.) Florke, and C. macilenta Hoffm. The species are confined to the humid mountainous areas of the south and the east. A brief description of each species is presented and the secondary substances are reported. Lichen monocarpus Ach. is included in C. didyma
