Among other properties, the new species is characterized by large spurred ascocarps and relatively high amounts of divaricatic acid accumulated in the medulla. Ecologically being montane, corticolous, acidophilous, photophilous, hygrophytic, and poleophobous. It is sociologically related to the Macaronesian epiphytic Ramalinetum subgeniculatae Klem.
