The fruticose lichen Usnea is a globally distributed group. However, its diversity in many parts of the Philippine archipelago remains poorly documented. This study reports a taxonomic account of Usnea from two localities of Quezon Province, Luzon Island, Philippines: Mt. Banahaw de Tayabas and Brgy. Sitio Pandak, Lucban. Six specimens were collected and examined based on morphological, anatomical, and chemical characters. Major lichen substances were identified by thin-layer chromatography. Four taxa were then recognized: U. himalayana, U. cf. nidifica, U. cf. baileyi, and one undetermined Usnea species. U. himalayana is reported for the first time in Luzon Island while collections from Lucban represent the lowest elevational record of Usnea in the Philippines (~411 masl). This extends the previously cited lower limit of ~600 masl for Usnea. These findings highlight significant gaps in regional sampling and suggest that the diversity and elevational range of Usnea in the Philippines are underestimated. Keywords: fruticose lichen; lichen substance; Parmeliaceae; thallus morphology; TLC.
