The lichen Parmelia omphalodes subsp. glacialis Skult, subsp. nova, is reported from the Arctic; it is particularly common on the arctic islands. Its major phenolic constituents are salazinic and norstictic acids and atranorin. Key words: lichen, Parmelia, phenols, arctic.
