Anthraquinones and phenanthroperylenequinones from Nephroma laevigatum

Four anthraquinones and two phenanthroperylenequinones were isolated from the lichen Nephroma laevigatum. The structures were established from their spectral data as emodin [1], 7-chloroemodin [2], 7-chloro-1-O-methylemodin [3], 7-chloro-1-O-methyl-hydroxyemodin [4], 7,7'-dichlorohypericin [5], and 2,2',7,7 '-tetrachlorohypericin [6]. Compounds 4-6 have not been reported previously. 7,7'-Dichlorohypericin [5] and 2,2',7,7'-tetrachlorohypericin [6l were also synthesized and characterized spectroscopically.
