Parainoa subconcolor is a rarely collected lichen distinguished by its whitish to pale brown, schizidiate thallus containing stictic acid. It has a broad distribution across Europe, South America, and Asia. Based on examination of type material and a three-marker phylogeny, we show that sterile Scandinavian specimens, previously described as Rinodina humilis and subsequently synonymized with Baeomyces rufus, in fact belong to P. subconcolor, which extends its known range to Norway and Sweden. Despite its frequent sterility, P. subconcolor can be reliably identified by its distinctive lens-shaped schizidia. Scandinavian records indicate a wide ecological range, from lowland agricultural areas to boreal forests and alpine heaths. A lectotype is designated for Rinodina humilis H.Magn.
