Xanthoria parietina and Lecanora carpinea are lichens usually associated with humid coastal localities. This article documents the introduction of both lichens to the Ottawa region in southern Ontario on transplanted trees, where they are apparently thriving. There is also a discussion of possible local dissemination, especially of X. parietina, through the movement and deposition of frass (excrement) of caterpillars that eat this lichen.
