Detailed descriptions of five species of the lichen genus Phyllopsora are provided. Phyllopsora buettneri (Müll. Arg.) Zahlbr. and P. kiiensis (Vain.) Gotth. Schneider are new to the Indian lichen flora. The genus Phyllopsora is characterized by crustose to squamulose thallus, corticated only on upper side, green algae, sessile, biatorine apothecia with hyaline, red to brownish exciple, hyaline or brownish, massive, chondroid hypothecium, simple, con- glutinated paraphyses, 8-spored asci, hyaline, simple ascospores and brown to red brown, sometimes white hypothallus. The genus is represented by more than 60 species in the world, out of which AWASTHI (1988) mentioned the occurrence of only two species of Phyllopsora (P. corallina and P. parvifolia) in India. The present investigation deals with the detailed account of five species of Phyllopsora from the Indian subcontinent
