[in Norwegian with English abstract:] Ivar Aasen (1813–96) was a famous Norwegian linguist, poet and lexicographer. Perhaps less well-known is
that he also had good knowledge of plants and that in 1839, and at the age of 26 years, completed his Herbarium
with an index of 509 species. After 1841, Aasen abandoned his botanical studies to focus on his linguistic
and lexicographical research. Several Norwegian botanists have contributed towards completing the index of
Aasen's herbarium with scientific and vernacular names of species. In 1940, curator Johannes Lid published an
index of scientific plant names of the plants in the herbarium (Lid 1940). Professor Rolf Nordhagen contributed
with five ammendments in 1976. In the 70 years since tha index was produced it has long since sold out, and
the names used no longer conform to current nomenclature. The time has come to present an updated index
to the herbarium. This article presents a short account of the Herbarium, as well as a complete and updated
index to it, with valid scientific names, current official Norwegian and Aasen's original list of traditional 19th
century local plant names from Sunnmøre.
Fig. 6 shows herbarium list with glued lichens and is commented as follows: Literature on lichens was little available to Aasen, the names
have been added later by botanists during the 19th and 20th
centuries, and some names have recently been added during
the 21st century. 488: Alectoria chalybeiformis, 489: Lobaria
scrobiulata, 490 and 492: Nephroma parile, 491: Platismatia
glauca, 493: Cladonia gracilis var. gracilis, 494: Cladonia cervicornis,
495: Cornicularia aculeata, 496: Parmelia saxatilis, 497:
Parmelia omphalodes, and 498: Ochroleria inaequatula.
