Eleven chemosyndromes that include the chlorinated anthraquinones 7- chloroemodin and fragilin are described from the genus Caloplaca (Teloschistaceae) based on HPLC analyses of 125 specimens. These are arranged in three syndrome families that are dominated by parietim fragilin and 7-chloroemodin, respectively. Biosynthetic pathways and possible taxonomic implications arc discussed
