The author studied the variability and the geographical distribution of the mediterranean liehen Physcia biziana (Massal.) Zahlbr. s.l. in the eastern part of central Europe. The variability of this liehen is very large. There is no precise line between the mediterranean and the east-central european plants, but a series of intermediate forms, which occur mostly in Hungary. It was observed that Ph. biziana var. pulvinata (Zahlbr.) Galle was identical with Physconia grisea (Lam.) Poelt. On the basis of herbarium items a map of geographical distribution in Slowakia, Moravia, Hungaria and Austria was made.
